MYTHICAL LANDSCAPES
These paintings were begun outdoors at the Elizabeth Street Community Garden, and were created using water-based crayons. Compositions began as figures in the garden, but the elements of figure and ground soon merged together so that the figures became landscapes.
As an artist who strongly focuses on the figure, the shift to landscape forms proved challenging. However, re-inventing the figures as imaginary landscapes rather than just reclining models, led me to transform the figures into pure abstractions. Ultimately, images became entirely arrangements of organic and geometric shapes.
